Résumé: In this paper we examine how machine learning will have implications both for how people learn in the future and for what learners and teachers need to know about machine learning. Furthermore, we consider the implications for education policy. We start by considering definitions and characterisations of machine learning (ML) and its relationship to artificial intelligence (AI). We then focus on: mapping current applications and examining possible future developments for the next 5- 10 years; emerging ethical frameworks; and finally, specific policy, practice and research recommendations for educational contexts.
